Resume and Headshot encouraged but not required. Proof of identification, driver's license, and/or valid green card required. Must be fluent in English.
WHAT IS IT? Our goal in forming the Scholarship Program at Athletic Garage Dance Center is to give serious dancers an opportunity to improve their skills, instilling the importance of technique as well as other dance styles, in preparation for work in the professional dance industry. For the amateur dancer, the program will serve as a foundation and the first steps into the world of dance. As well as giving the gift of dance to those have financial need.
WHO IS ELEGIBLE? Anyone who loves to dance and values commitment, this person must be disciplined enough to fulfill the requirements of the program.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS? Must be ages 18-27.
Must be available MONDAY - THURSDAY 5:30 - 9:30 PM (TUESDAYS 5:00 PM) and SATURDAY from 9:30 AM - 3:00 PM througout the program. MUST KNOW BASIC BALLET POSITIONS (Arms and Feet: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, Tendu, Plie, etc, do your google research) and basic ballet technique. Must be able to perform a clean single pirouette, and a side split. Must be able to commit for the full term (6 months). Absences and tardiness will not be tolerated and must be negotiated with the Director. Able to attend all required classes (minimum of 17 classes/week). If you miss a class, it must be made up with another approved class. May not be part of any other dance group, program, agency, while on scholarship, and may not take classes at any other studios until the program is over. Class requirements will vary depending upon the student’s background and will be determined by the Scholarship Director. Those with no technical background will be required to take Technique, Ballet, Modern, and Contemporary Jazz classes, in combination with Hip Hop, Jazz Funk, and Salsa. Those technically trained. depending on their background, will be required to take Ballet, Modern, Contemporary Jazz and a combination of Hip Hop, Jazz Funk, Technique classes, and Salsa. In addition to the mandatory classes, students with full scholarships are encouraged to take any other dance classes they can at no cost. In addition to dance requirements, students will be required to give four to five hours of service to the studio each week. These services include but are not limited to cleaning the studio, helping with studio events, working behind the desk, assisting with sales & marketing etc. Each student must sign and agree to the contract terms of the Athletic Garage Dance Center Scholarship Contract.
